"Color is a memory.
Texture is a language.
Art is a conversation."

The Story

Born in February between two cataclysmic snowstorms, Drew received an early introduction to literature, art, film and, gravitated to creativity in his earliest memories. Taking early inspiration from comics and their use of intense colors to amp up the story’s emotional content, he began working in the visual arts while honing his skills in short fiction. Inspired by a wide range of literary influences, including Toni Morrison, Raymond Carver, and Haruki Murakami, Drew began discovering the artists that inspired his idols like Warhol, Jasper Johns, Motherwell, Kandinsky, and Rothko, who, to this day, have a profound impact on his work.

His experimentation with textures and nuance followed suit, incorporating wax to create unique textures and modifying the traditional encaustic method, including setting his first works on fire to deepen the textures and pigments. As his style continued to evolve, he expanded his visual language through the use of texture, color, and shadow. He added tape, string, and tile to push the boundaries between painting and sculpture. Over the last several years, he has begun to focus intensely on paper and the power it can wield, connecting to our visceral and subconscious conversations around texture and color. He began sculpting, shaping, tearing, and building texture with paper. The balance of this bold yet delicate structure evokes a strong emotional connection with the audience, compelling them to explore and contemplate each surface.

Less Hate.
More Art.
